 As a Kingstowne resident I take Top Golf for granted. It's not until I start mentioning it to people that don't live within a 10 miles radius do I realize how many people are missing out on such a great concept. There are only 3 locations in the United States (soon to be 4 in Spring of 2011). Alexandria is lucky to be one of those locations (Chicago, Dallas and soon to be Allen, Texas are the others).

What is Top Golf?

Top Golf is a driving range but, not just any driving range. The golf balls are personalized to each player and tracked every time they are hit which then provides feedback on a flat screen monitor in the bay you are hitting from. You can play at any skill level and have up to 5 people in each "suite." There are 11 target greens that you can attempt to hit into (I say attempt because I seem to miss more often than not) they range from 25 to 250 yards away. Depending on the distance each target has a point value. There are different games you can play simply by selecting them on the flat screen before you start. In the winter the bays are also heated so it's great for year round use.

What If I Don't Play Golf?

This is my favorite part about Top Golf, you could have no clue how to swing a club and this is the place to start. You'll see all skill levels and if you really want to get into Golf Top Golf has a professional staff visiting the suites offering advice on how to hold a club etc. You can of course also pay for private lessons. If you have no interest in golf not to worry, there are seats behind each suite with a table where you can sit, order food/drinks and have your waitress bring them to you.

How Much Does it Cost?

You will need a membership to play so that your golf balls recognize you. If you just want a 30 day game card the cost is $5.00 plus games (one game is 20 balls and range from $4.80 to $6.00). The better value is in a Players Card which is a one year membership, onetime fee of $40 which then includes 7 free games. They also offer a 10% discount for seniors, military and kids under 13. In addition to the driving range Top Golf also has 2 Mini golf courses.
