Thoughts As I Enter A New Year
I’m not big on New Year’s Resolutions. I set goals but, not just annually, I break things down to as small as daily goals and build up from there. The daily helps meet the weekly which helps me meet the monthly… you get the point. They typically revolve around production goals and learning new skills to grow my real estate business. When looking at 2019 a couple months ago I just didn’t feel any of that spoke to me, it wasn’t what my heart was telling me for the first time in over 10 years.
A scary feeling at first but, then something dawned on me. Producing a certain amount isn’t what makes me happy. Helping people is what makes me happy and it always has been. I just happened to have been really set on accomplishing a certain amount of sales every year, I wanted to prove it to myself that I could do it.
This year I’m not setting a certain number to hit. Some may think that’s crazy and I respect that thought process. I think it’s admirable to want to hit a certain amount of production. It’s just not where my heart is this year. I want to make time to focus on a second business I’ve started and devote time to helping others grow and I want to have a little more time to live life. The twenty-something me would have cringed that I’m writing this but, I hope that means I’ve grown.
It’s time for me to be a little bit pickier about who I work with and what I devote time to. I struggle with saying no and it results in putting myself into situations that aren’t a good use of my time and if I’m really being honest that I don’t enjoy. This is something I struggle with in my business and professional life.
There’s really nothing you can’t attain as long as it’s your passion and you’re inspired to persevere until you attain it. This year I’ll be focused on living my life with purpose, saying yes to things I’m passionate about and not feeling guilty about saying no to things that I’m not. No resolutions, just a little different goal than I normally set.
Whatever your goals are for 2019, I hope they are what make you happy and fulfilled. Happy New Year!
