Washing Machine Hose Replacement
When was the last time you changed your washer hoses? They are very likely not something you think of often but, they do need to be replaced. Bursting washing machine hoses can cause massive water damage in homes. In fact, they are responsible for $150 million in damage to homes annually.
Most homeowners aren’t aware that you should change your washing machine hoses every 3 to 5 years. The rubber in the hoses cracks overtime and becomes weak which can cause them to burst. Rubber washer hoses are very common because that’s typically what the manufacturers send with the new washing machines. However, when replacing your hoses it’s best to upgrade to stainless steel braided hoses. They’re not much more expensive, just a few dollars and should still be replaced every 3 to 5 years but, are much stronger than the rubber hoses which gives you less chance of having a problem. Spending about $25 on new hoses if you install them yourself or about $125 if you have an appliance specialist come and do it for you could save you thousands in damage.
While you’re changing the hoses it’s a good time to also clean your dryer vent and make sure there’s no lint build up blocking the hot air from flowing to the exterior. It will ensure the dryer doesn’t become a safety hazard when operating along with extending its useful life.
